Amplitude demodulation (AM) is the mode usually used by standard broadcast receivers etc. Synchronous AM demodulation (SAM) can be used to great advantage when a received signal is fading. It works particularly well in the QS1R. Auto AM/SAM mode is quite useful when tuning around a band of AM stations. SAM is disengaged while tuning and switches on when the tuning has stayed in the same place for about a second. Other modes are Dual sideband (DSB), Upper and Lower sideband (USB and LSB) Frequency Modulation Narrow (which doesn't currently work too well), Carrier Wave Upper and Lower, Digital Upper and Lower, Digital Radio Mondiale, Spread Spectrum and Digital Radio Mondiale with a fixed 12kHz bandwidth.
